since I was in hospital last week they have reduced my dose from 120 units to 60units a day to be reviewed in a fortnites time my bs today was 22 I feel im being penalized for being mentally ill

Hi. That is completely unacceptable. You must insist on seeing the hospital's diabetes specialist. You must also insist on them giving you back your insulin so you can manage yourself. Tell them being 22 is on the way to going into DKA.

It's not the first time this has happened is it Gail? The team is trying to keep you safe by limiting your insulin as you abuse it so often by taking overdoses. The team would be hung drawn and quartered if they gave you your full insulin back and you then decided to abuse it again which could end up in you dying or brain damaged from an overdose.

You can help yourself though by limiting the amount you eat so this will bring your numbers down hopefully.
Try and stay well. ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))

Hi again. Perhaps my earlier advice to you didn't take into account your overall situation as insulin can be dangerous if the dosage isn't right. All of us need to control our carb intake to various extents. Although I'm on insulin I still have to control my carbs to avoid weight gain and of course BS gain.

Was the 22 after eating? What are you before & after eating? Or first thing in the morning?
Are you keeping a record to show the specialist/nurse you have contact with? It may help when talking to them.

Sorry to hear your levels are a bit high @gail1

Is there a way you can get some advice before 2 weeks’ time?

I’m sure they don’t want you to feel penalised.

What had you eaten before the BG check? When was the reading taken?

I can understand how you feel, but there is also the need to keep you safe while you settle after your hospital stay.

Maybe there’s a middle ground?

How are things now @gail1? I hope you and your team have come up with a solution. 🙂

22 was b4 food

Nice to ‘see’ you again today @gail1

How are you feeling? Hope things have improves for you.

Hello Gail how are you today? I`ve been away from the forum for awhile just catching up on posts and came across yours. Sorry you have been back in hospital I hope you got the treatment you needed at the time?, that's quite a reduction on your insulin and 22 before food is unacceptable as you well know.

Have you managed to contact your team especially the DSN and told them your BS levels are very high?. As @everydayupsanddowns says there maybe a middle ground, your health is paramount to your team and we all want you to be safe. Please come back and let us know what is happening and how you feel, speak with you later take care. {{{HUGS}}}
