Used to struggle with high readings on waking, 2 weeks ago doctor suggested upping my basil which I did and now waking up between 6 and 8 which is a lot better than it was, now for the bolus I'm taking
15 mins before breakfast which is usually 4 units of novorapid for 40gm porridge and some blueberries...my readings for this morning is 8.4 2hrs after breakfast,
Just took another reading on the
3hr mark and its down to 4.9 , am I taking too much rapid, or do I have
a snack to get me through till dinner 2 hrs time, any advice appreciated.

Try 3u tomorrow see how you get on with same breakfast, idea is with basal bolus is not having to snack between meals, not like before on older regimes where snacking was necessary.

If you have a half unit pen you could try just half a unit less tomorrow and see how that works or a full unit less as @nonethewiser suggests.
My top tip is don't be frightened to carefully and gently experiment on yourself as long as you always keep a close eye on keeping safe, to see what works best for you. Stable overnight readings are the most important aspect of basal insulin, so it is good that the adjustment suggested by your doctor has worked.
