Hi everyone hope your well, in need of little advice please!

Woke up today my eye was all stuck together, its very watery and i look like the terminator! I am going to go to work to see what they say as if it is contagious i will be seny home :(

Anyway i had my retinal scan on wednesday and wondering if maybe the lens was not cleaned properly before me and i could have contracted it?? I cant think of any other reasons why this has happened just wonderig if the scan could be the culprit? Thanks x

I find it amazing that eye infections are as infrequent as they are. Ever wiped your eye without thinking about what your hands last touched? The office door, or a button in a lift? I know I do it all the time. It may have been something that you picked up at your screening session, but even more likely that it was somewhere else. If it doesn't go away in a couple of days, your GP may prescribe antibiotic drops. Meanwhile if you're worried, most opticians and pharmacists will offer advice if you ask.

I got a nasty eye infection recently and it turned out to be caused by an airborne virus - pretty much unpreventable!

Sounds like you may have conjunctivitis. It could be worth going to a walk-in medical centre or direct to your local eye infirmary.

No i dont wear contacts alan,

Been to the doc and its conjunctivitis so i have antibiotics eye drops and not allowed to work :( i will not be happy if the eye scan is the reason! I havent had it before :( at home now just done my first drops not sure they even went in!! Lol

Hope you recover quickly Nikki 🙂 It's something that hadn't occurred to me, that the scanning machine might pass on an infection (if that's what happened). Might take some dettol and a cloth next time! 😱 :D

Thanks alan, yea its the only reason i can come up with! Surely theu would have to clean it before each person??

Did any part of the equipment actually touch your eye? Whenever I've been scanned, the drops were from a new bottle opened in my presence by the technician wearing gloves, and the chin rest was covered with a new disposable paper cover. Nothing has ever touched my eyes except the drops and a tissue from the box supplied.

And an afterthought... I'm mildly surprised you were given antibiotics straight away because conjunctivitis can be viral or allergic as well as bacterial, and antibiotics don't work for either of those. Or at least that's the reason I was given when I was told to wait a few days before using the drops I was prescribed a few years ago!

Wonder if i can call and make a complaint! Lol yea my eyes did touch the scanner as he pushed it right up to it for me to follow the dot....orr maybe it was the eye shield that u read the letters from covering one eye? As that touches them too!?

I didnt think the doc would say that either she said she didnt know if it was viral or not but as i was diabetic she wanted to be extra carefull and so gave me the drops and said if it gets worse to come back immediatly. Also because of the environment i work in, im not allowed back till its all clear

Personally I'd ring the hospital. I've never had an eye scan so I wouldn't know what they do.

Nothing touches your eye in retinal screening/photography - not even your eyelashes - shouldn't, anyway.
