Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed last month as type 2
started off on 2 Metformin tabs per day and measuring bloods 4 times a day
averaging around 15 on self tests
have now been on 4 tabs per day since last week
bloods still around the same levels
also watching what I eat
total carbs intake daily less than 200
any advice gratefully received

Hi Simms
I would suggest testing before and after eating. That way you can see what affect the food has on your BG, and any changes you make. Keep a food diary, along with a record of your levels. Hopefully, after a couple of weeks, you'll see a pattern.
As diabetics it's carbohydrates we've to manage. It's not food that raises our BG, it's carbohydrates in particular; pasta, bread, cerual, potatoes. We can have some. Which, how much and what with is the question. This is where the self testing comes in.

Jenny,

You seem to have a good knowledge. My sugars are currently between 10-15 and I want to get them spot on.

Any advice you could give would be much appreciated

Well thanks! Some things I do know about but quite a lot I don't!

There are lots of resources for 'new' diabetics on the forum here
https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/forums/links.24/
and also here
https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/forums/welcome-and-getting-started.37/
and in other places.

But anyway - introduce yourself and tell us about yourself so we can all have a go at suggesting things that might help - I'm not actually any sort of expert especially with Type 2 - but a lot of Type 2s know exactly what helps them and might you too.
