Hi,
I'm Jo and I've been diabetic since 1999, initially diagnosed as Type 1, but recently reclassified as MODY.
Changing from insulin to Gliclazide has been a major readjustment and change in mindset, so it would be great to speak to anyone who has been through similar.
Thanks, Jo

Wow! Welcome @joannalbutt 🙂 That must be a massive change for you - a good one, I hope. At one point they thought I might be MODY, but tests showed I was Type 1.

Welcome to the forum @joannalbutt

Gosh! That must have taken quite a lot of adjustment to get your head around. It does seem there are a number of people with MODY who are initially mistakenly diagnosed as T1.

One of our regularly-posting members @Stitch147 is diagnosed with MODY, but unfortunately hasn’t visited much this year

A new member @jackmody3 was also hoping to share experiences with others earlier in the year here:

Hi and welcome from me too.

Sorry to hear that you have had to cope with a massive overhaul of your diagnosis and treatment but I hope you have been able to find some benefits to your new diagnosis, as you adjust to it. How are you managing without insulin or are you just reducing doses at the moment. I assume you are also having to adjust your diet. If so, I would be curious to know what dietary changes they recommend for MODY? Are you seeing signs that the Gliclazide is working?

I have no personal knowledge of MODY but keen to know more.

We have a few members who were misdiagnosed as Type 2 when they were actually Type 1 or Type 3c and some who are currently undergoing tests to reassess their diabetes Type and it can be very unsettling, especially when you have got into a routine of managing it for many years and then suddenly that gets turned upside down, so can really sympathise with your situation. Hope it is going well for you.
