Type 1
Hey, found out about three weeks ago ive got type 1. It was a huge shock but ive come to terms with it and blood sugars have settled right down, can still go back to my job abroad which is a huge relief.
Just wondered if anyone has any tips or advice about it?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum Amber 🙂. Sorry to hear about your type 1 diagnosis. I highly recommend you buy yourself a copy of "Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People" by Ragnar Hanas - suitable for type 1's of any age. This book is bursting with useful information written in an upbeat can-do style. What insulin regimen have you been put on?

I'm quite new to type 1, just at the six month mark. You're doing well, it took me months to get the blood sugar under control (ish). There are loads of people on here with lots of experience so I'll leave the advice to them, just wanted to say hello 🙂

Hi amber, welcome to the forum 🙂 I second Redkite's advice about the Ragnar Hanas book, it's terrific and covers just about every aspect of living with Type 1. Other books you may find useful are Using Insulin and Think Like a Pancreas which cover some aspects in greater detail. For eating out (or just eating!) Carbs & Cals is useful for estimating the amount of carbs in many common meals.

If you have any questions, please ask away! Nothing is considered silly - if it bothers you, please ask 🙂

Hello! Ill have a look at that book. Im currently on Nova Rapid and Levimere. 5 times a day at the moment. I have been using the carbs and cals app to help me adjust my insulin. I did a course at the hospital about two weeks ago which was good.

Hi Amber, welcome to the forum and to the Diabetes Club (not the coolest club in town...) 🙄

It's fab that you've been on a carb counting course so soon!
I didn't know anything about counting carbs until about 7 years in.

If you ever fancy a chat, there are loads of helpful people here :D

If you don't mind me asking, what is your job abroad? Sounds exciting!

Sounds like you've got off to a really good start! 🙂

I work as a teacher in the middle east. Yes I was lucky I got on it. It was very helpful, I think that's why ive accepted it so quickly.
Thank you all for your advice 🙂
