Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I am lesley I'm 54 almost and have been diagnosed with type 2 looking for as much help to understand what I need to change many thanks

Hi Lesley, I'm prediabetic so won't be able to give you any useful advice, but wanted to say that I think this forum is so helpful and people very quickly respond to questions posted.
So hopefully you will soon get the help you need.

Welcome @Winkie fairy 🙂 Have you been put on any medication for your diabetes? A good place to start is to make a food diary of what you currently eat. You can then look to ways to improve your diet. Generally, you’ll probably need to reduce carbs (all carbs not just sugar) and increase green veg and other low carb veg.

Exercise will help too. Even brisk walking has an effect as does just keeping active rather than sitting down.

Welcome to the forum @Winkie fairy

Glad you have found us!

Hopefully the support, encouragement and shared experiences of the friendly folks on the forum will really help you get to grips with your diabetes diagnosis.

Don’t worry if it all feels a bit overwhelming at the start - that’s a pretty common experience.

Take it step by step, and keep chipping away at it a little at a time. There’s no one single approach that will work for everyone, managing T2 diabetes is very much a case of considering all the possible strategies and options, and then experimenting to see which ones work best for you, and are a good fit for you to maintain them long-term 🙂

Keep asking questions, and let us know how you get on!
