Good morning.

I have recently been diagnosed as having Diabetes following numerous fasting blood tests in March/April. Saw GP in April who stated that last October MY Ha1c was 47, March/April Ha1c tests were 58. GP made appointment for me to see Practice nurse ref Diabetes later in May. advised to eat healthily, advised brown rice/pasta, etc

So I decided to take control and began to test my blood sugars (for the last 4/5 weeks), i began researching various websites, cut out crisps, cakes chocolate etc sugar levels were still high, so had to reduce carbohydrates which appears to be working.

Have researched various diets/ways of eating IE low carb/keto/mediterranean/newcastle diet/low calorie/low fat.

I am currently loosely following a Mediterranean low carb style way of eating. Blood sugars are coming down nicely however I know I am in for the long haul.

Just thought I would say hello, and not just lerk around forum.

Hi Glenys, welcome to the forum. You are quite right in taking control of your condition and making changes. It's a pity your nurse advised eating rice, pasta etc 🙄 though many medical people still do, I'm afraid. But it sounds like you are very sensible, and I've no doubt you will continue to find lifestyle changes that you can sustain.

So well done on a good start, let us know how you get on and ask any questions you like, someone's bound to know the answer! All the best to you from another type 2 who has found this forum to be a wonderful place 🙂

Hi @Glenys and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately many in the medical profession are still giving incorrect information regarding diet, but it seems that you have learnt for yourself what you can and can't tolerate. Many on here have had success with the LCHF WOE, as you are now. There are lots of recipes etc in the food and carb section. If you have any questions just ask.
Onwards and downwards!

Welcome @Glenys, well done for taking control and thinking outside the box, carbs are defiythe sneaky bad guys so watch out for them, do read as much as you can and ask anything you are curious about, loads of support and experience here that has been a lifeline for me 😉

Welcome to the forum @Glenys. Congratulations on your progress so far - your proactive approach and thoughtful analytical examination of various options are just what you need to make a success of managing your diabetes.

I don't know about having to expect a long haul - I eat low carb foods now, and always will do but my BG levels are normal, I got normal levels when tested at 6 months from diagnosis, so it was quite a quick fix for me.

Welcome Glenys......embrace the healthy lifestyle 🙂
