Hi All
I was diagnosed yesterday with Type 2 and will be starting Metformin this week. I obviously need to change my diet and would appreciate if you can point me to information on great recipes and what to stay away from. All a bit overwhelming at the moment. Thanks Jane

Anything by the Caldesi’s (moderate lower carb) or Martina Slajerova (real low carb). Often found cheaply in The Works bookshops.

Alternative google whatever meal you fancy but add “low carb” or “keto” to the search. You’ll get loads of sites offering that recipe tweaked, along with loads of others on whichever site to explore. My favourites include dietdoctor.com (which has loads of articles too and is mostly free other than set meal plans), ditchthecarbs.com, ketodietapp.com and lowcarbnomad.com. There are so many others too.

Welcome, you will obviously be wanting to reduce your carbohydrate intake as although metformin helps it will be the changes you make to your diet that will have the greatest impact. Taking your metformin with food can help with any potential stomach issues and hopefully you have been told about building up the dose if needed over the course of a few weeks.
If you are going for a low carb approach then no more than 130g per day is suggested but it is definitely not NO carbs. This link may help you with some ideas for modifying your diet.
Those books suggested are very good also.
Were you told what your HbA1C is as that will indicate how much work you will need to do.

Hi Kjhelman I got diagnosed with type2 4 weeks ago and my wife got me the hairy bikers Eat to beat type 2 diabetes - found it very useful.

Hi Kjhelman, welcome to the forum.

It's natural to feel overwhelmed when you're first diagnosed as it's a lot to take in and get your head around. There isn't a set way of eating for everyone so it really depends on the impact your meals have on your blood sugar level. You can find out more about testing here. https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing

We've got a really helpful food section of the forum so feel free to take a look around for some ideas.
