Hi I am 61 and I live in a rural area in Turkey. I live with my Turkish Husband on a sheep farm here. Things get pretty hectic looking after the animals it is hard work but I love the slower pace of life.

HI @Gortongirl1963 and welcome to the forum. What kind of care do you get in Turkey for type 2? Is it the same: annual bloods, foot check and retinopathy test? And are you on any medication?
It sounds like you already exercise plenty if you are farming...that is hard work!
No questions are considered silly here, so if you want to, please ask away 🙂

Hi Vonny
The care is ok here. I have blood checks every 3 months and I am on 850mg of metformin twice daily. I had a retinopathy and foot check in February and everything was fine. Thank goodness. I am however seriously overweight so that is an ongoing battle I am currently dealing with. I will get weighed again at my next check but there is no support group for that so I am listening to podcasts and reading aswell as the portion control.

You may find this link helpful with some meal ideas but obviously it will depend on what is available to you in Turkey. It is a low carb approach with people have found successful in reducing blood glucose and losing weight.
You can follow the meal plans or just follow the principals and do your own thing but the main thing is reducing the carbs in your diet and portion control. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Thank you for that. I will look into it as I struggle for recipe inspiration.

Welcome to the group @Gortongirl1963

I went to Istanbul for a holiday and absolutely loved it and the food, which may not have been the most healthy (apart from the fish).
Just from what you've said, it's going to be down to diet as I guess you get plenty of exercise chasing the sheep around.
The link that Leadinglights gave you is a good starter

Alan 😉

Hi @Gortongirl1963 and welcome to the forum!

A sheep farm in Turkey sounds like 'the best of both worlds' to me  A friend of mine is absolutely in love with Turkey, wants to move there, but she also often goes crazy over the baby sheep in the farms nearby whenever she visits me (I'm in Scotland). I'm absolutely suggesting that to her the next time we talk :D

In regards to the recipes, we have some on our website, however you definitely need to look at what works best for you with your active lifestyle. And as Vonny has noted - if you'll have any questions or worries - just ask away. There's always someone here who will have the right answer, and we're always happy to hear from others, be it your victories or rants. :star:
