Welcome to the forum. Have you also been advised about making some dietary changes as even with medication it is still needed. How high your HbA1C is will indicate how much work you will need to do.
As all carbohydrates convert to glucose it is those food which are high carb which you will need to cut out of only have is small portions.

It is a low carb approach which many find successful but that does not mean NO carbs. A suggested starting point for reducing carbs is no more than 130g carbs per day. It does involve weighing portions and looking up carb values but you soon get a good idea of what is what.
I found the book Carbs and Cals very useful (there is an app also) as it shows carb values for various portion sizes of a whole range of foods so helps making better choices.
