Hi and welcome

Sorry to hear you have joined our not so exclusive club but you have come to the right place for support and advice.

I think it would be quite difficult for us to comment on your weight loss and diet without knowing more info.
How ill were you with Covid? I am sure a bad case takes a pretty heavy toll on your body, so that in itself is likely to cause some significant loss of body mass.
Were you overweight to start with... ie is the weight loss welcome or are you dropping into an unhealthily low BMI and now underweight?
How long since you were diagnosed and what sort of things are you eating? ie What is an average breakfast, lunch and dinner now for you since diagnosis and how does it compare to pre diagnosis.
Do you know what your HbA1c reading was at diagnosis.... this will be a number usually expressed as 48+ or may be as a percentage which is the old fashioned measure.
How did your diabetes diagnosis come about? Was it whilst you were being treated for Covid or afterwards? Were you symptomatic? ie weeing a lot and thirsty and tired etc? Had you had any previous blood tests which were normal in the past few years for blood glucose? The reason I ask is that it is possible for people to be diabetic for several years without having symptoms and being diagnosed, so I wonder if the Corona virus is bringing these cases to light or causing the diagnosis.

Sorry for all the questions but difficult to make comment without more info.

Welcome to the forum @grumpy969

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :(

Has your Dr suggested that your diabetes might be related to your experience of Covid? Or do you think it was coincidental?

17kg is a substantial loss of weight! I wonder if that was due to covid? or might be diabetes-related?

In the short term while you are gathering details about your diabetes diagnosis and which treatment options are most appropriate, you might find it helpful to begin keeping a food diary, in particular, the carbohydrate content of meals and snacks.

It is carbohydrates (not just sugars) that will cause the most disruption to your blood glucose levels, so many members here find a moderate or low carbohydrate meal plan really helps

Good luck, and keep asking questions!

Welcome to the forum.
I've no idea about the weight loss.
I'd suggest self testing to see what affect food has on your blood glucose (BG) levels, along with any changes you make. Keeping a food diary, along with a record of your levels. Hopefully after a couple of weeks you'll start to see a pattern.

Welcome. Love the username.
Sorry to hear you have had this rough patch.
Please ask all the questions you need to
