I happened to mention this recent research to my DN this afternoon when i got my Hbaic results and she really dismissed this by saying that cure/reversal is not the right term but control is. She said that this just means that you are in good control but not a cure or reversal - i didn't bother discussing it further as it was the sort of reaction i expected.

I think it's a fair reaction from your nurse - the study was tiny and as such didn't really prove anything that could be of practical use. Hopefully, if it is followed up with more detailed research something more generally applicable will be discovered.

The 600 calorie study only involved 11 people and 4 didn't benefit(40%). At 3 months 7 of them had normally functioning pancreases again. But we need to know what the situation was at 6 months, one year and so on.
I think the experiment took place in 2009 so all that info should be in .....but nobody's mentioned the follow ups ( which,if you are being cynical, might suggest that the gains have washed out and they're are back to T2 diabetes).

At the moment I think the best any of us can expect is good control, which many people have achieved.
