Hi all.
My name is Becki I’m 27 and as of last Friday I’m type 2 diabetic.
I showed no symptoms apart from the occasional sugar crash. No thirst. No weight loss or gain. Dad has type 2.

Glad to be here as newly diagnosed and it has been a tad overwhelming with the information to go into my brain to learn this and hopefully overcome it. Being a very fussy eater I’m a little nervous about this journey. But from many threads and forums I’ve seen. I think I’m in good hands

Welcome @beckiboo1910 🙂 You might like to take a look at the Learning Zone (click the orange button at the top of this page). Many people with Type 2 don’t have symptoms so in a way you’re lucky - lucky that your Type 2 was detected. Now you know, you can gradually look to make little changes to improve things.

Have you been put on any medication? And do you know what your HbA1C test result was?

Hey @beckiboo1910 new here too, type 2 also. I never had any symptoms, but I don't know about lucky as it's caused me serious issues. But like you, yes, lots of changes, and are you always hungry now?

My HbA1C was 110. I think it's translated to 12.x or 14.x on a glucose monitor. I have it down now (after 5 days) to 7.4 and ketone of 0.1/0.2.

On (for Diabetes) Metformin 500g, Gliclazide 80mg, and Atorvastatin for hypertension.

I hope you can get it down. I find it all a bit overwhelming and confusing, but, we're not alone.

Hey hey! Thank you for the warm welcome.
Not as of yet. Gonna be a while before my appointment with my diabetic nurse. But doctor said I’ll be on medication.
Hopefully we can find quickly what is right for me.
Yes quite right I’ve caught it early to turn things around.
My HbA1c was 70 and doc wants me at 53. So hopefully all reachable and obtainable goals!

Hello!

Thank you for the information. Does look like symptoms never show so only glad I picked up and got it sorted.

As long as I can remember I have always been hungry. Always have a hunger pang somewhere. So maybe could have been another symptom but everyone’s diabetes works different.

My HbaA1C was 70 so could be worse. But high enough to need some help now.

Am only thankful I have people on forum in the same boat. It’s a lot to take in.

Welcome to the forum. I suspect your HbA1C is high enough for you to be prescribed medication but it can only do so much and dietary changes will be needed as well. As it is all carbohydrates that convert to glucose it is foods like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, breakfast cereals, pastry, tropical fruits and fruit juices that need to be reduced and meals based on meat, fish, eggs, cheese, dairy, nuts with plenty of vegetables and salads and fruit like berries, by having enough protein and healthy fats then you will feel less hungry than eating high carb foods.
Have a look at this link which is a suitable low carb approach for most people who are dietary managed or only on metformin, a bit of caution needed if on gliclazide. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
