I've no idea if this affects UK supplies, might be worth asking Bayer if you use these:

Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The Department of Health (DH) today (August 16) directed a local medical device supplier, Bayer Healthcare Limited (Bayer), to recall from consumers all batches of two products, namely Contour and Contour TS Glucose Test Strips, as the ongoing in-house quality assurance scheme by the manufacturer has detected the production of erroneously low blood glucose readings.

I only just picked mine up today so I would assume they are ok?

With the way my BG readings have been lately, I definitely don't think I have been running low 😱 I'll drop them an email today.

Hi Shiv

I would really be interested in the outcome of your e-mail as I have just gone onto Contour strips when I started on my MM pump, and would rather go back to my Accu-check mobile and self input my BMs into my pump if there is anything iffy about Contour strips.

Much appreciated.

This is a little anxiety provoking, we use these for the little one, fingers crossed ok in the UK ! If anyone has any updates please post x

I'd just use your Accu-chek mobile, why did you switch?

Hi Shiv

Bear with me - I think my explanation as to why I altered blood glucose monitors is about to become a little bit complex -

Before I got my pump in the middle of July I had been using the Aviva Expert - the advice from which became redundant as I was given a Medtronic Minimed Paradigm Veo - so not compatable. The Contour links to my pump sending the BG details directly to it - so I just went with it.

Shortly after going on the pump I became ill (evening of day 5) and on Day 8 I ended up in hospital with serious dose of gastro enteritis - whilst there I was a bit worried about the Contour as on one ocassion it didn't tally with the hospital BGM - out by 4mmol - the DSN came to see me and brought an Accu-check Mobile (which I had to keep once it had been in my contaminated hospital room - people had to wear gloves and pinnie's when they came in!). We re-tried the contour and it seemed fine - so I continued with it as it gives the data direct to the pump.

However as I have been ill, it is taking me that bit longer to get my levels on the pump stabilised and I have been going through testing sticks at a rate of knots so I have just recently started to use the Mobile whilst awaiting a restock of sticks for the Contour (which arrived today!).

I have to say that I have loved using the Mobile and find it so handy and easy to use I am now regretting the 300 Contour sticks I have just picked up from my pharmacy (particularly in light of the info contained in this thread). - But the good thing is at the rate I am going I will have used them in no time - and will then confuse my GP surgery even more by requesting yet another change of test strips!

Phew feel exhausted after that - no wonder my life feels a little complicated at the moment!

I read on Twitter from a chap in the USA that it was just the sample strips of 10 and not the 50's - hope so!

I emailed Bayer when I saw this thread. A very nice lady rung me today to say there is nothing to worry about and it apperars to be in China and it concerns the small pots of strips and ours come in pots of fifty. So the UK appears to be safe. Sheena

Thanks Sheena, I had a feeling we would have known about it if people here were affected 🙂
