You often hear about celebrities gaining or losing weight for movie roles, but you don't often hear about the negative effects on their health.
Packed to the Rafters star Rebecca Gibney wanted the role of Shirley Moochmore in the new Aussie comedy Mental so much she piled on 14 kilograms and found herself on the verge of getting diabetes.
"When I auditioned for the role, I said that I would stand on my head, I would do whatever it takes, put on weight, because I wanted this role so much I would do whatever to get it,'' Gibney told AAP.
"I've done small roles in features before but this is certainly the biggest feature film role I have had.''
After two months of very little exercise and eating to try gain 20 kilos, the 47-year-old felt that something was wrong, and was advised by a doctor to stop the weight gain.
