If a type 2 asks to go on insulin do they have to be reasons or evidence to support that choice? Tomorrow I am planning on asking my DSN if I can go on insulin, its not an easy fix i know and im not asking for that reason, its just the victoza is not working for me and I can feel it more then ever lately,Ive given it time and im not rushing into this lightly as I fought so hard for the Victoza,But really all I want to know is can they refuse to put me on it?
Basically the Victoza gave me a steady weight loss of 2-3lb in the early days but now its not happening im putting in as much effort as well so its not like im expecting the Vic to do it all for me....
Anyway I guess ill find out tomorrow what happens just hope im given a fair chance..
Another question the type 2s in here who have been put on insulin a while into diagnosis, have you found the insulin has improved your levels?

Obviously can't help with the insulin question sorry. I presume the actual injecting is no longer a problem?

We all reach a plato every so often weight wise Steph. It maybe that weightloss will start again

We are "hopefully" going to start swimming again now that the children have gone back to school. Sometimes it just needs a change in direction of exercise to give the body a re boot :D

I presume also that you keep a food & exercise diary already. Seeing it written down calories in as well as carbs can sometimes help. I shocked myself only the other day just adding everything up!

Obviously not really answered your question sorry again but might just be of some help 🙂

Now over to the experts.....

Take Care hope it goes Ok tomorrow

Hi Steff, yes of course it works, the big concern I have is the problems with moving to a restricted driving licence ( a hard step to reverse). Taking a Basal insulin is little different to the Victoza, unless like me you need a lot to reduce the levels. It's supposed to make it harder to reduce weight or even to maintain weight. I struggle to loose weight and am on quite high levels (well I think so, although there are others here who are on similar).

Well I would have thought it was an item up for discussion, to be raised voluntarily by either side.

Similar to a T1 developing insulin resistance and either them or their medic wondering whether taking Metformin as well, might help em overcome it?

As Trophywench says, no harm in asking and finding out. But as Vicsetter said, insulin does tend to make you put on weight from what everyone says.

And it may be that it will work to start with and then lose its potency after a while.

I would have thought the DSN may want to try out lifestyle suggestions first. They don't like going for the final solution too soon, before they've exhausted the free or cheap options first (maybe gym sessions, etc).🙂

Hi steffie insulin has made a big difference to my levels. I am on small doses 4 units novorapid and 10 levemir. To keep these levels low I have to maintain a high level of exercise.

It is definitely worth discussing with your dsn. I was given a month to think about going onto insulin before I started. But for me I want the best control I could get and insulin gives me that.

If you want anymore info pm me honey xxx

Oh ps I have not put weight on, but am struggling to lose more. I wanted to lose another stone, but it won't shift x

Insulin is actually a growth hormone .....

This is the reason I asked to try Byetta first. I was scared of putting weight on as I really toil to lose any as I am. Even the Byetta hasn't helped really. I was told by my consultant that Byetta was only a stop gap on the way to insulin and I'm trying to prove him wrong. So if the Victoza isn't working you my find that your doc suggests it anyway. Good luck with the appointment. XXXXX

If I need treatment, I have asked for Insulin and both my GP and DSN says fine.

I will opt for non animal insulin. But I plan to continue to be diet controlled unless my A1c gets elevated.

Good luck with your appointment Steff x
