I have been complaining of being tired all the time for a while now and also have been getting the odd hand tremor. Some of you have suggested getting thyroid checked? Now am going to get my HBA1c blood test done and seeing the consultant for my diabetes, now seeing as endocrinology also deals with thyroid issues. Does everyone think it is a reasonable request to ask them when they do my blood test to test my thyroid function also??? Do we think they will or will I have to go through the doctor? Seems daft if I have to when same area? Anyone had experience of this?

I get all of my blood tests done through my GP in advance of seeing my diabetic consultant. That way I know the results in advance and know if there is anything I need to discuss. GP surgery is more than happy to test my thyroid every 12 months. If you want your thyroid blood test done at the same time as the HBA1C your consultant/doctor/nurse will have to authorise the test.

The series of tests I have before my diabetes check-ups always include thyroid checks as a matter of course, so it's not an unreasonable request at all.
