Hi everyone i was diagnosed with type 2 about 3 years ago now. I feel that i haven't had much support and that i really don't know what to do . I have already had 4 operations in the 3 years due to nerve damage in my arms. I really don't know how to cope with this. I am on metformin at the moment .
Hi bluejay, welcome to the forum
🙂 Sorry to hear that you have had problems, and also that you have received a poor level of care. Hopefully, we will be able to help you to ask the right questions in the right places so that your health care team start doing a better job for you
🙂
There is a lot of good reading in our
Useful links thread, including a link to a page telling you what care you should expect from the NHS, some good links on how to manage your diabetes well, and an excellent book,
Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker which is highly recommended - just because this is not your first year, you shouldn't think it is not for you!
One of the best diets to follow is the GL (Glycaemic Load) diet, which combines foods for flexibility and that will release their energy slowly and steadily to help you maintain good blood sugar levels. There are examples in the Useful links thread.
How often do you see your GP and do you test your blood at all? Testing is one of the best ways to understand how diabetes affects you personally (we're all that little bit different!), but many doctors are reluctant to prescribe strips because of the expense.
Please feel free to ask anything that is worrying or confusing you - or just have a good old rant! We'll do our best to support you and allay your concerns
🙂
