Readings

Good morning all. I have just started using my Gluco Navii meter but am unsure of the readings I should be aiming for. I used it for the first time last evening and had a reading of 7.6 mmol/L and this morning before eating anything it was 6.7mmol/L. I am not sure what is normal, high or low.

Hi @MickW

The general targets are:

• before meals: 4 to 7mmol/l
• two hours after meals: less than 8.5mmol/l

i would just add that if you get any readings you weren't expecting and aren't sure why or know why but are not sure what to do about them just ask - there are plenty of members who'll be able and happy to help you out 🙂

Your BG will vary and fluctuate during the day, so it’s helpful to read the results in the context of their time of day, relationship to meals (or stress... or excitement... or activity... or... or... or...).

Generally carbohydrates will raise BG, so you would expect to see higher readings after any meal or snack with carbs in. Taking readings in pairs around meals or snacks can help you see the impact of different amounts or types of carbs.

Bear in mind too that home BG meters are not perhaps quite as precise as their ‘decimal place’ readouts might suggest, and that readings within 0.5-1mmol/L can be considered as ’pretty much the same‘ 🙂
