Hi peeps,

A few weeks ago I realised the reason for my shocking numbers of late (last month or two!) was my basal wasn't working out, so I upped it, I had been on 18 units since diagnosis, 3.5 years I think, I upped it to 20, better but not great, after 2-3 more days I upped it to 22, wow! too much, waking at 4.0,3.8 so I dropped it to 21, seems great I'm now back on good numbers having some days not higher than 7's so well chuffed, esp as doc has requested me to give me a talking to as hbthingy is up to 7.4! But I know why and have sorted it so no worries really.

SO question is how often do you guys have to put up your basal, and by how much, just wondering...

Hope all tickety boo! I'm busy busy with house and getting ready for little foot steps😱!

Cheers

Rossi.😉

Well, my basal has gone the opposite way Rossi, as I'm now on zero units, but in the past I have had to adjust it up or down from time to time and it has varied, for example, down to 4, then up to 11, then down to 2 (gradually, not overnight!). I basically stopped altogether about 6 weeks ago, but have had a few days where my levels have been creeping up so re-introduced a couple of units then back to zero again - mostly seems to relate to my activity levels: very active, no lantus/lazy, maybe a couple of units.

I tend to need to change my basal on a six-monthly basis - this also seems to always very neatly coincide with when the clocks go back or forward. I also tend to reduce my basal if I know I'm going out on a night of heavy drinking, and also things like holidays completely alter my basal requirements so I tend to change then, too. I tend to change my basal in increments of 4u each time - I'm on 34u of Lantus a day and smaller changes just don't seem to register.

I've had to reduce my basal from 11 am and pm down to 4 morning and night over the last year. It's been put down to weight loss, have lost two & half stone!:D

Doesn't follow a pattern, had to do massive reductions in everything in January/Febrruary; since April I've been putting it up. Increased it again today at certain times. It's just having to be eagle eyed ALL the time and spotting trends quicker than I've ever had to in my life before. I do find the meter software ace for this purpose despite keeping an ongoing 24hr written diary, it's easier to see in spreadsheet format.

LOL at Trophywench - snap!

I seem to need to change mind every 2-3 months. So pretty much I *never* get to feeling that I have it 'right' - or at least if it seems to be working OK this week, there's no guarantee that it will be the same next week.

I started decreasing mine earlier this year for the first time to reduce morning hypo's. I got from 24u down to 20u, however when the hot weather kicks in it has to go up again due to stubborn highs!
