Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to this site and haven't posted before. Due to feeling exhausted and light headed I took myself to the doctor 6 weeks ago and I had a range of blood tests done. I was alarmed when the results showed I had raised sugar levels. Hba1c (i think lol) reading was 44 and I was advised to exercise more and reduce my sugar levels. I've been working hard on this advice but I'm still experiencing double vision and itchness around my lower legs and cramping in my calves during the night. Would these be indicators my sugar levels are high?

Hello to you Angel.

Those things could be,,

Best thing, sorry if this sounds obvious, would be to check.
Ring your GP and ask for a chat.

Hope this helps.

Hi. Welcome. I agree with Bill n both points. Sight can go blurry with high levels and if they are coming down fast. However I think you need to check out double vision.
An Hb1ac of 44 puts you in the pre diabetes range, so youre in with a good chance of being able to prevent or at least delay the onset of diabetes.
The way to do it is by learning as much as you can about T2 , changing your diet in a sustainable way and yes exerciseif your able to, this doesn't mean hours in the gym , unless you want to that is, walking is good .
Feel free to ask questions ok we'll do our best to help.
You might find this book about pre diabetes by Gretchen Becker helpful

Another thing that will help you greatly, is finding out which carbohydrates (yes you've read right carbohydrates, not just sugar) affect your BG blood glucose more than others. Unfortunately it's most unlikely you'll be provided with a glucose meter and or enough testing strips. If this is the case, while you're fighting for one, the SD Codefree meter is the cheapest one to self fund that we know of. It's test strips cost around £7 for 50 where high street brands cost between £15 -£30.
We use the mmol/l measurement in the UK and you're entitled to claim vat relief.
You will need to buy more lancets and test strips as their is only 10 in a starter pack.
