Hi, I have recently started taking statins and my blood sugar has started shooting up after I have taken it in the morning. Has anyone else experienced this? I usually have good control!

Statins increasing BG levels, particularly for people with diabetes and already elevated BG, is a well-recognised thing. I think the research suggests an avg increase in the order of 0.5 mmol/L for fasting levels, but that no doubt varies a lot from person to person.

I am Type 1 on an insulin pump, would this still be the case? Eg my bg was 6.8mml before breakfast I had 10g carbs, my atoravastin plus my usual insulin dose worked out by my meter. It jumped up to 15mml, 2 hrs later! Anyone else experienced this?

That's a lot! I can only suggest talking to yr doc.

I would be surprised if the statins caused such a big rise. Have you done a basal rate test recently. When I first started on a pump I thought I just needed to do these fasting tests before my hospital appointments. I now do these a lot more often, or at least check periods that seem wobbly.

I am also always surprised by the early warning I get of a cold brewing. My BG give me the info before I even get the symptoms. (Such a benefit of having T1!)

In the last month with the changes in the weather I have made quite a few changes down and back up. When unsure I end up ‘interviewing’ a change by using a TBR to start with, rather than go through changing my rates. I also have programmes with 20% up, 20% down to swap to if I feel a bigger change is needed

Hello Missie welcome to the forum.🙂 That's quite a jump, time to talk with Doc or DSN.
