Hi everyone

Are quorn products a good meal to have , i am not vegetarian just looking for healthy different options.

Any opinions on this?

Thanks Stuart

I use quorn fajita strips in enchiladas and fajitas. I also use quorn mince in lasagne, ChillI, bolognaise and shepherds pie. My partner says it all tastes nice 🙂 We don't like the quorn sausages.

Quorn can be a little bland and sometimes has an aftertaste. It's best combined with something that has strong flavours.

That said, all the things we tried Quorn for, we went back to the meat version! Especially given the Quorn versions were more carby then the meat version.

We always have some Quorn mince and Quorn Swedish meatballs in freezer, handy for a quick meal. I use the "meatballs" in various tomato sauces with chilli and veg for a pasta dish. Use the mince in various chilli recipes...there are lots of recipes on the Quorn website.

My husband has the Quorn sausages on seeded bread and sometime adds one Dairylea light triangle. It's his substitute for a sausage roll. But it bothers my stomach, so I abide it.

I use it sometimes but find it very bland. When it comes to veggie mince and sausages, Asda's own brand ones are much better.

Hi All
Thanks for all the replies food for thought here , i thought Quorn wasnt to high in Carbs

Quinn mince has 4.5g carbs per 100 grams

Quorns fresh mince alternative is 4.5g carb per 100g of product, that's the only one I know to hand x

The Asda branded veggie Lincolnshire sausages are 3.6% carbyness, I can't check the mince as I don't have any in at the moment. I sometimes do a cooked breakfast using tinned mushrooms which tend to be between zero and half a percent carbs, and tinned tomatoes which come in at about 3%. With a fried egg and a veggie sausage, the only part with a significant amount of carbs in is the toast. I sometimes use Hovis low carb bread but it is expensive and, as I don't eat that much bread generally, I'm not sure that it makes too much difference overall.

I make smoked paprika chicken stew with quorn pieces. It’s delicious with cauliflower rice! 🙂

I’m veggie and my OH isn’t, so to avoid cooking two meals, we tend to eat a lot of Quorn. Some of the more processed and prepared meals (eg pies) are carby (obviously) but the plain mince and chunks are fine. I became veggie in the early 80s and the only meat substitute was TVP. Now that’s what you would call bland! I suppose I am used to cooking with it so I don’t expect the flavour of the Quorn to be dominant. I would be equally happy with most of the things I make if we left the Quorn out, but it is a useful source of protein.
Favourite recipes include cottage pie with cauli mash, supreme made with lots of mushrooms and peppers, chilli, Bolognese with courgetti or edamame pasta, Thai curry. We like the wild garlic and parsley sausages, or the Cumberland ones, rather than the plain ones. Apart from that we also eat the peppered steaks, gammon steaks, meatballs, and broccoli & mozzarella escalopes (about 20g carb in one of those but if you don’t have carby accompaniments it might be manageable).
