Hi everyone,

I’m Joe, a student dietitian from Newcastle University and I’m conducting a research project involving people living with diabetes.

The research is about understanding the opinions of people living with diabetes on the use of continuous glucose monitoring in people without diabetes and involves a short survey (5 minutes) and the opportunity to take part in a focus group.

By taking part in a focus group, participants will receive a £10 amazon voucher!
Please click the link below to complete the short survey and share your opinions!

@Joe Davey - my answers might look as if I have no opinion or that I'm so far on the fence you can't get me off it.

Actually I feel quite strongly that in certain cases it isn't a waste of resources whilst also knowing that for some individuals it's a complete waste. Answer is - It depends on the patient!

That's ok, whether you have strong opinions or no opinions its still valuable to the research! Thank you for completing the survey and if you'd like to discuss this in more detail be sure to register interest in the focus groups!

More information regarding focus groups will be sent out in the coming weeks!

Are you only interested in current users of CGMs? I don't consider myself to be a user in the real sense but I do buy one a couple of times a year just to study the data.

Hi. Yes we're interested in current users, or regular users. So people that would be using it day-to-day to manage their blood glucose. So I would say that as you only use it a few times throughout the year that you wouldn't fall into this category. But thank you very much for your interest in this research!

Hi Inka, this issue came up with one individual when I piloted the survey and I couldn't figure out why exactly.
I'll resend the link in this reply, but it might work if you use a different web browser to the one you initially tried to access the link with. For example try using google chrome instead of microsoft edge (if on a windows dektop) or instead of safari (if accessing via an iPhone, iPad or macbook).

Hello, survey completed. I’ve got strong views on this topic after watching “out the box testing” on YouTube with non diabetics using CGM & associated branded apps for “refuelling” on sports activities? They don’t seem to realise Blood sugar levels don’t stay static in a healthy range.

Thank you for completing the survey. I hope to see you in a focus group to discuss these opinions!

Some CGMs are not accurate but they tend to show the ups and down OK. They can be over or under but its better thanpricking your finger 6 times a day.

I must admit I strongly suspect they're wasting their money, but I struggle to care much. Similarly for non-sports people who try CGMs. I suspect they're not getting good value from them, but I tend to feel it's their money.

I guess there's potential motivational value in seeing the graphs for you showing that yes, talking a walk after eating helps lower blood glucose more quickly and that kind of thing. But for people without diabetes (as I understand it) there's no evidence it actually matters. I do worry that some people might change their diets in harmful ways based on trying to correct their CGM graphs in ways that just don't matter, but it doesn't feel like a major problem. Maybe if CGMs become much less expensive more people might be impacted.
