Hello all, hope someone can help. Hospital has released me with Metformin, but no blood sugar testing kit (new Type 2 diabetic so this didn't mean anything to me until other diabetics commented). Should I get one or wait until the GP review on the 20th May?

Hi Louise, welcome to the forum 🙂 How did you come to be diagnosed? As you have gathered, it is best to be able to test your levels in order to gauge the impact of food on your blood sugar levels, but it is probably worth waiting to see if your GP will provide you with a meter and strips before going to the expense of funding it yourself. It would be a good idea to arm yourself with information so that you can counter any arguments against testing which may be put forward by your GP - they may say you don't need to test, or that getting high results might make you unduly concerned, but the real reason if they decline is almost certainly cost.

Have a read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter. These should give you a good grounding in how to approach managing your diabetes successfully. Please ask any questions you may have and we will try our best to help out! 🙂
