Despite my late Dad having Type 2 for about 5 years I am ashamed to admit I don't know as much about the treatment of Type 2 as I'd like to 😱
So can somebody please answer what is probably a simple question?
Speaking to my Mum today about a friend of hers Mum said her friend is now'injecting 4 times a day like K so her pancreas must have packed up and she has become a Type 1'
I think Mum has got this wrong as I didn't think a Type 2 could 'become' Type 1, but I am embarrassed to admit I don't know if any of you wonderful type two people use insulin alone to manage your D?
Trying to make room in my head for type 2 stuff - wish I had taken more interest when Dad was around:(
 
You remain as a Type 2 if you go onto insulin as the origins of Type2 are different. Quite often, a Type 2 will just go onto a basal insulin, but there are many who are on MDI too. Doses of insulin tend to be higher because of increased insulin resistance (some members have hundreds of units per day). There are actually more T2 insulin users than T1 in the UK, something like 900k T2 and 300k T1!
 
shes still type 2 some type 2s do require insulin im type 2 and im on 120 units insurtard a day plus metformin piogitazone

I did know type 2 could be treated with insulin - my Dad was on Levemir (same as K) but he was mainly on tablets (various) Wasn't sure I had heard of Type 2 being treated by ONLY insulin which is what my Mum thought her friend was now doing (albeit in large amounts by the sound of it)😱
Why would a type 2 on Levemir (injecting at bedtime) test their bs on waking (as my Dad did)?
