Hi, I’m due to upgrade my pump and need some advice , I have the Dana rs at the moment and looking at maybe switching to the omnipod or the Dana I , please need some advice from other please, TIA

Hi there. What sort of advice are you after @Ewa26? I’ve just started pumping with the Omnipod Dash - are you thinking that maybe a patch pump’d suit you better? There are some Dana users here, @Inka I think is one of them.

Yes I was thinking of trying the omnipod as there is less messing around with tubing etc, and was advised if I didn’t get on with the omnipod I could go back to the Dana, how is it when having a bath does the omnipod stay on?

It stays on as its waterproof, can be submerged in water for up to 60mins.

Do like good long soak in warm bath occasionally, that's about as far as my pods have to put up with.

Wasn’t sure what it’s like for the average usage and just wanted to know how it’s living with the omnipod as lees bits that can go wrong

Has anyone tried it in a lazy spa? Just wondered how it behaves (heated insulin)
I am not a pump user but I imagine it is similar to Libre in what the adhesive can withstand so should be fine for 20 mins or so. I think we are advised to be careful with steam rooms and hot spas etc anyway because they can cause hypos, so you are probably best limiting time in them to about 20 mins which the adhesive should withstand.
As regards the insulin in the pump, it is already going to be around body heat because the pump is attached to you and I don't believe this causes degradation over the 3 day period of use, so I can't see a hot tub being any more of an issue in that respect.

I have read that some people have problems with Omnipod, with the insulin tunneling back up to the skin surface around the outside the cannula part and effectively weeping under the adhesive which means that those people can find they are not getting the full dose particularly for meals and I suppose that could look like their insulin is not working effectively but will usually become aware of the insulin seeping out under the patch. It is a rare occurrence, but we have had a few reports of it on the forum and obviously with the cannula being integrated into the pod, there is no means to use a different type of cannula to overcome the problem.

Bloden how you getting on with Dash?

Really like hand held unit, had to change it 2 weeks back as battery life was poor, tbh it was from start, with new device battery is lasting 3 days so all good so far.

I’m VERY happy, thanks for asking. Glad I opted for a patch pump - it suits me down to the ground. DSN is happy too. Seeing consultant on Monday for feedback and hopefully some tips on prolonged activity / ex. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Glad to hear you’ve got the battery problem sorted. 🙂

It’s really unobtrusive. I hardly know it’s there. The sticky pad is super sticky (no problems with the Pod falling off) but peels off easily once it’s finished with - weird! - no at all like the Libre sticky pad which takes a chunk of skin with it sometimes, owwww. I can be quite clumsy so tubing was definitely not for me! The sticky pad held firm in Spain in August - hot n sweaty skin wasn’t a problem.

Have you signed up to an Omnipod show-and-tell session @Ewa26? I think there’s a link on the website, to book a Zoom slot. It was really useful. As was the tslim session (my DSN organized this one for me).

Very pleased all is going good.

You can ask for a sample of the omnipod from them, I tried it and loved it. Fine in water. Had 2 full contact rugby training sessions with it on and no issues at all. I liked it a lot. And tried another which I can't remember at the moment but that was a bigger, still fine. I do like the patch pump options, but also would really like a closed loop so I need to see what my team say

Adhesive is so good on pods Phoebec, only ever had couple come unstuck, really looking forward to day we can use closed loop system.
