Pump date - should I delay?

I now have a provisional date for getting a pump - 7 Feb 🙂

However, I'm going away to Norway just two weeks later with all the challenges that brings - carb counting with unfamiliar food, ensuring I have all the supplies I need plus a little extra challenge of preventing the insulin from getting too cold while out and about (I have a Frio for my pens but guess i'd need something for the pump?) From what I've read, a pump takes a fair bit of work initially to get things set up the way I'll need them so I'm wondering if it is wise to start on the pump then go away two weeks later while I'm still getting used to it?

Any thoughts?

I went off to Austria 7 days after getting my pump. I don't think that I had it fine tuned but it still made things easier then being on injections, I then improved my basal rates with a lot more work when I got back. I did check with the DSN and Consultant but they were both happy for me to go. I missed the first follow up day but saw them after a month. I also knew that I could get hold of them by email. I still had my pens with me so if all failed I could have switched back. I think that not depends how confident you are. I was reluctant to wait another three months for the next Pumo Start so I just went ahead with it.

I went to Norway, and got a cold weather warning on my handset a couple of times when testing so just needed to move in a more sheltered spot and not out the handset case down in the snow!! The pump was warm enough as I had it inside my clothes on a bra pouch, and I was certainly not going out in any clothing that ever gave it. Chance to get too cold.

Hi Andy. I have been to Norway, Estonia, Latvia & Russian boarder on a motorbike. You are right about guessing carb values in other countries but I would go 🙂

Thanks. There's no question about whether I'm going or not - this is my present to myself for getting through the pancreatectomy. And I'm not delaying getting the pump either. I was just wondering if I'd be better off sticking on MDI till I get back. I think i'll see how I go when I get the pump and take pens with me to be on the safe side.
