Employment status and related factors can affect the risk of developing diabetes, according to a study from the UK.
We already know that psychosocial factors like low job status, low social support and depression, can increase the risk of coronary heart disease. But the impact of these factors in diabetes has been unknown.

A group at University College London has been following a group of nearly 6,000 male and nearly 3,000 female civil servants for around ten years, during which time four per cent developed diabetes. The risk was linked to grade of employment ? nine per cent of men and seven per cent of women in clerical and office support developed diabetes, compared to three per cent of men and two per cent of women in administrative grades.

They'd have to test people in more than one 'industry'/working for different employer(s) to prove that one.
