I am not for a moment suggesting that anyone else does this, certainly not without medical supervision. However I did want to share that two weeks after giving up Lansoprazole I feel much better and I'm not needing to sleep during the day in anyway as much as I did. On Friday I actually managed to walk Susie and not sleep at all during the day. I can't remember the last time that I managed that. The reason for the post is just to say be careful about the side effects of medications because they can creep up on you without you realising and potentially have a very bad effect.

Yes, it's often not clear why you are feeling a certain way, and with some things it's common to attribute them to just general lethargy or age or a myriad other factors, without realising that it might actually be a consequence of the medication (or combination or medications). I was reading just this morning about how ACE inhibitors (all the -pril pills) can cause you to become much more sensitive to insulin, risking hypos. It's not a side-effect, but an interaction, so could be missed.

Glad to hear you are feeling better Amanda 🙂 Will you tell your doctor? I was on Omeprazole for a while when I was on aspirin but stopped taking it after a few months.

Hah! - and do the Drs tell us this when they merrily write out the scrip for the BP pills?

Nope ......

Mond you if you read the PIL for almost every pill ointment and liquid medicine, there's a diabetes warning, God help you if you're both D and pregnant LOL - you'd probably more likely die of Beri Beri than a hypo .....

Hi Amanada,
I remember we had this conversation before about the meds you are on as most cause tiredness. Glad to hear things are better for you now.
When I was put on that drug to protect my tum due to steroid use, I ended up with so many Dr's calls due to vomiting and needing emergency cover or hospital admitence it did take a while to work out what the problem was. As soon as I stopped taking it, back to normal.

TW you did make laugh. Alan I won't tell the GP because although I'm feeling much better than I was I'm still suffering from fatigue and I don't want them to suddenly think that I am back to normal. But it is great to feel much better than I did.

Hi Sue I remember our conversation but for some reason I hadn't realised that Lansoprazole could cause fatigue. It wasn't until somebody on here posted a link to the Daily Mail article about PPIs that I thought that it might be a factor. My eye consultant also investigated whether I could change my beta blocker eye drops for a type that don't cause fatigue - unfortunately that change isn't possible due to the risk of a blood clot on the eye. But I'm trying to do everything that I can to reduce the fatigue.

PS Sue sorry to hear that you had so many problems with Lansoprazole

Glad to hear the giving up your proton pump inhibitor Lansoprazole is benefiting your general feeling of well being, AJLang. 🙂 Hope you and your medical team can find something else to help your stomach symptoms.

Just in case anyone is confused, ACE inhibitors treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and help protect kidney function by inhibiting a different physiological process.

Thanks Copepod. Fortunately I'm finding that the heartburn isn't too bad and can be easily dealt with by Gaviscon. They put me on Lansaprazole as a precautuionery measure when they put me onto aspirin but then just left me on it without any proper review.
