Hi I have diabetic type 2 latest reading 52 Hbaic 5. Cholesterol.
my doctor said I have a bit of protein from my kidneys this happened 2 years ago and was ok anybody experienced that I have slight Ckd due to age

I have they sent a specimen of your urine to the laboratory?

Hi. Are you on any other medication that can cause kidney damage? My wife has Stage 5 CKD believed to be caused by extended use of ibuprofen or her Colitis Asacol tablets. Read all your meds leaflets.

I am type 2 hbaic 52 slight age related Ckd I had protein in Urine Jan 2019 it was then ok until last racing anybody had this Doc said BP and metaformin may need altering g but nothing to worry about

I was told by Nurse Practitioner that Stages 1 and 2 are so common as to be considered "normal". I am usually hovering around 2 to 3a, and GP at last meds review said my kidney function is fine!

The thing that worried me was her saying kidney leakage a bit of protein in urine which I had in Jan 2019 and then up to now no problem.I put a lot of it down to lockdown not delivering a free paper once a week and going to gym regularly

Have they asked for a retest to check? If not, they are probably not that worried.

mediications can interfere with kidney function

Well yes David, some medications can do that - but if they do they have to inform patients whether it's common, moderate or rare and define what numbers that refers to, on the printed leaflets inside the packets of drugs. So read the side effects of all of your drugs and see if any of them do affect the kidneys and if they do, query with the doc as to whether you ought to be taking them in view of the CKD.

You can also look that up on the internet on the MHRA website to see whether any side effects have been reported - as long as you know the proper name of the drug. ie not 'Beta Blocker' or 'ACE inhibitor' - the actual brand name and strength. eg I take thyroxine - but it's actually called Levothyroxine.

It is certainly an important thing to keep an eye on. Several of our annual checks are to keep an eye on the health of our kidneys. Diabetes is the most common contributor to end stage kidney failure I believe.

If your kidneys are starting to feel a bit tired then I gather that keeping BP within tight targets.

Keeping your BGs as in-range as you can with as low a glucose variabilty and instability as you can manage really helps too, of course.
