An article from the archives of The Manchester Guardian, first printed 8 March 1923, and reprinted in The Guardian on 8 March 2014:
http://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2014/mar/07/archive-1923-pros-cons-slenderness
Interesting mentions of Frenchwomen's figures, rounded figures of Victorian novels, changing norms of figures of monarchs such as George III and Charles II, association of bosy shape with health etc. Remember, published in 1923, just 5 years after World War 1 ended. Although diabetes isn't mentioned, it also worth mentioning that Banrting and Best's work on dogs and insulin started in 1921.
Last sentence: "And where good health is fashionable and you have your teeth looked at every three months, it would seem as though the preference for the slim figure has made vigorous health possible."
