Long-term users of the acid reflux drugs known as Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) have a 24% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

That's because folk with acid reflux are often overweight. It's an association, not a causation.

There is no possible metabolic association with T2 diabetes. The other conditions, for example gastric cancer, are seen in any similar medications like H2 receptor antagonists. Simply reducing acid levels in the stomach increases the risk.
