Both the author of the Blog and I were well aware of Prof Taylor's work, its limitations and the fact that its medium term success is pathetic (approx 13% after 5yrs). Prof Taylor only expanded his views in Achieving T2D remission after he had assisted with the statistical analysis of Dr David Unwin's GP Surgery T2D patients' superior remission figures which were achieved via Low Carb 'Way of eating' without calorie counting or calorie restriction.
Thank you for your comments. They are worthy of debate in a separate topic especially that low carb way of eating without calorie counting or restriction.
Prof Taylor's review of the Counterpoint study (supported by Diabetes UK).
It proved that T2D is reversible in many cases:
Banting Memorial Lecture 2012 'Reversing the twin cycles of Type 2 diabetes'

Summary of results submitted by individuals who reversed their T2D after hearing about the Counterpoint study:
Population response to information on reversibility of Type 2 diabetes 2013 (updated: full text)

Dr Unwin, Prof Taylor et al's paper about the low carb T2D programme at Norwood Surgery
What predicts drug-free type 2 diabetes remission? 2023

These papers, together with those about DiRECT and the successes of the NHS Remission programme, show remission rates depends on the quality of programme delivery and the commitment of the individuals.

And as Mike Lean discusses in his most recent Direct publication, it also depends critically upon how great a residue of functioning (or resurrectable) beta cell reserve one has.

On a rather different point, I take the view that Taylor’s Direct results have been a resounding success in demonstrating that maintenance of reduced weight maintains remission in almost all cases. The fact that many Direct participants later lost the plot and thereby lost remission cannot be reasonably laid at his door, it was their responsibility to retain the benefit of the principle he had demonstrated. He is a scientist, not a nurse maid.
