I have been Diabetic for 25 years. Over the years I have seen the NHS service gradually get worse. I have not seen anyone for over two years and only had very poor telephone consultations. I live in Cheshire. Can anyone recommend a private consultant in my county?
Many thanks

Sorry can't help re the private treatment.

Simple solution though is to kick up a stink regarding your lack of care. It's amazing what results you will get if you start making a fuss.

If you are under hospital diabetic care you could make a complaint through the PALS system.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sorry you are feeling a bit neglected with your diabetes support. Unfortunately things have been pared back to basics in many areas due to the pandemic as the diabetes specialist nurses have been in significant demand on the Covid wards due to the virus causing problems with very high BG levels for diabetics and possibly also triggering diabetes in previously undiagnosed people.

I can't offer advice about private consultants but feel that you could throw a lot of money at the situation and not end up much better. Personally I think the Freestyle Libre system is more worthy of investment if you don't already have that than a private consultation. There are one or two people here on the forum who have been to see private consultants and been given advice which on closer analysis, turned out to be less than ideal and really just referred the patient back to the GP with recommendations for changes in insulin and other medication which just didn't make sense.

Is there anything particular you are having problems with that perhaps we could help you with? The forum is a goldmine of combined and shared experiences of people who live with diabetes day in and day out, meal by meal, so in lots of respects we have more practical knowledge than some of the best consultants, who to be fair, really only know the theory. I have learned a huge amount from other members here and have shocked my consultant with some of the strategies I use to manage my diabetes effectively. He is extremely happy with my results though. Libre has been a game changer as regards learning more about how my body responds and helping me become the expert in "my diabetes", so I would highly recommend researching that if you don't already have that or we can point you in the right direction.

II would Google Nuffield Hospital in Chester....check out their Diabetes consultants. And I believe there is an HCA hospital in Wilmslow. (HCA is Hospital Corporation of America). Don't forget, private specialists' fees are not regulated, they can charge what they like. Always worth asking their secretaries what they charge. And high cost is not an indicator of expertise.

My OH had a private consultation with a urologist which was £250 as he was considering going private for a prostate op and the quote for the surgery was £7200. Fortunately he managed to get a reasonable timely date from the NHS.
