Hi all,

I always prime my Humapen & my Autopen 24 with a 2u airshot towards the floor.

Should i give the pen/s a gentle shake to get rid of the little spot of insulin before i do my injection?

Is the 2u airshot enough when i've put a new cartridge in?

Up to you

You would have to be extremely insulin sensitive for this minute amount of insulin to have impact on your blood glucose control either way..

And they probably do fall off either before or after the needle touches the skin.. So extremely unlikely to be pushed into the skin on injection

I do a 2 unit airshot too, but when putting a new cartridge into my Autopen 24 I find it takes 10-14 units dialled up before the insulin shoots out. Similarly when changing my novorapid.

Same with my novarapid demi pen...when i load a new cartridge it takes quite alot of units before the stuff actually comes out!

I usualy so 2 units down to the floor with every injection and just give it a tap before injecting 🙂

Agree with Ellie, however I always tried to get rid of mine, mainly because if I didn't and the skin was wet (or otherwise wet) the jab hurt, esp Lantus.

Incidentally, I usually did em into the air, ie upright, same as blasting air out of a syringe because if there was any air in the cartridge it should come to the top and you'd be more likely to get rid plus when you invert, you do have more risk of the air in the needle going upwards into the cartridge anyway.

I personally do 4 units, as sometimes 2 units doesn't do the job, so I save time by doing 4.and I give the pen a wee tap to get rid of the leftovers.......
