Theresa May has told MPs she is 'proud' of her government's record on the NHS at the first prime minister's question time debate ahead of the 8 June general election.

The comments came as Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn challenged the prime minister over NHS funding, and accused the Conservatives of breaking manifesto promises.

Ms May's comments also came just a day after BMA chair Dr Mark Porter hit out over the ongoing crisis facing the health service, warning that successive governments have been 'in denial' over the state of the health service. Dr Porter warned that years of underfunding had created an NHS in which 'our hospitals and GP surgeries are full and social care is on its knees'.

Mr Corbyn told the House of Commons on Wednesday: 'For the first time in its history NHS funding per patient will fall this year. The NHS has been put into an all-year-round crisis by this government.

'Why are more people waiting in pain and millions of elderly people not getting the care and dignity they deserve?'

Pretty much sums up why I can't believe a word she says :( If she truly believes this, she is deluding herself in the face of clear evidence to the contrary, if she doesn't really believe it she is being dishonest :(

She's telling the truth- the aim of the government is to bring NHS England to its knees, so she can be well proud of that.

She is good at stating how many more staff there are but the number spread across the country is minimal.

It's the standard response - quote a big number, whether it satisfies the number actually required or not. The thing is, they will also say that things like the NHS are under pressure because the population is getting older, people are living longer, more treatments are becoming available etc. - yet all these things are predictable. The whole point of government is to determine society's present and future needs and distribute income from taxation accordingly - that would be impossible if you didn't try and predict requirements rather than simply reacting (inadequately). Same goes for schools - you know how mny children are being born, how many will need school places etc., so you plan for it. Or, you simply ignore it then act all surprised and expect people to accept that it's inevitable that problems should occur :( 😡

Currently our local council are planning on building housing on green belt sites. Either just round the corner from our house, or just down the road.

The local schools and local doctors are all full to bursting and have waiting lists. They are 'discussing education and healthcare with the appropriate bodies'. Meanwhile, the local schools, doctors surgeries/hospitals, police, fire service AND the council - all have to save money.

Doesn't take a flippin Vulcan to gauge that this seems somewhat illogical, Jim ......

Oh and the independent environmental survey they commissioned and paid for has failed to discover eg the 3 ft of flooding in peoples existing houses (the ones that had to be built on a 10ft deep concrete rafts) every year that neighbour the site .......)

I cannot possibly say what I think of this government or May as I would without doubt be banned for life. 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

Only thing I think Rob, when I'm desperately trying not to be ashamed of being T1 like her - is, would any of the others we might get a choice of in June, be any better?

Sadly - no-one else known to me in politics currently jumps out at me as MY 'ideal choice'.

Ah - need to add the word 'either' to the end of that sentence.
