The former director of primary and community care in Scotland Paul Gray (pictured) has been appointed chief executive of NHS Scotland and director general of health and social care.

Mr Gray, currently the Scottish Government director general for governance and communities and will take up his new position from 2 December.

Previous roles held by Mr Gray, who has extensive public sector experience, include director of primary and community care from 2005-2008, with responsibility for primary care, community care, care of older people, adults at risk, dental services, pharmaceutical services and general medical services.
