You will all have no doubt seen that Preston is in lockdown. We come under those restrictions because we pay our rates to Preston City Council. Does not appear to matter that we are so rural that we don't have a phone signal or are miles away from any centre of infection, we get lumped in.

So what does it mean? It seems to mean that we can't have people round for a chat and a brew if they also pay their rates to Preston City Council. That is, unless it is somebody in your bubble (whatever that is) or it is something to do with work, or is your mobile hairdresser or the plumber or any number of other reasons. You don't have to have the devious mind of a Cummings to find a get out. Anyway it does not really matter because you can meet up in the pub or anywhere else with a till, or at work or in the park, just not in your house or garden.

So what we have is a minor inconvenience which can be ignored at will. It is unenforceable. It is not a lockdown. Will it have any effect on local spread of the disease? If it does it will be minimal.

I know that them in charge have a difficult job on their hands, but simple, one size fits all solutions ain't going to do much good.

Now, where have I heard that before??

That ‘or anywhere else with a till’ thing is becoming painfully obvious isn’t it.

Even the whole mantra about must keep schools open ‘for the children’ rings hollow for me, when without the schools being open so many find it impossible to return to work.

The economy seems increasing much more of a driving forcein these decisions to me.
