I know this is a funny thing to ask but does anyone have problems with blood sugars before a period?
I have tried increasing my insulin and I am either sky high or dropping low.
It is making me feel totally washed out!
I just cant control my levels.
I tried going to the gym today but ended up going home.
Any ideas? 🙂

Thought I'd move this Nat, as it is (as far as I have read!) a problem not just confined to pumping, so a few more people may see it here 🙂 Obviously, I can't share any personal experinces (despite the avatar! 😉)

I'm similar with in the main my BG lands in my boots, then other months they hit the roof (or what I call my roof, an 8 is high for me) I've been on the pump for 4 years now, and try as I might I can't find a pattern to work from..

It's a case of instead of doing the norm of proactive use of the pump, I just react best I to react to what's happening as it happens..

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

Hi Nat!

I personally find that my levels drop quite a lot, as opposed to go high, and I have been prone to the odd fall around time of the month. Most other people I've spoken to though say they can't get their levels down.

But I would definitely say yes, in some way or other, your period will affect your blood sugar levels, another ball for you to juggle!

Hope that helps!

Vicki 🙂

Thank you for moving the thread and for all your replies.
I'm feeling really not with it this week. I keep craving rubbish as well which I know isn't helping bearing in mind I am usually quite good with my diet.
I usually write everything down as well but haven't done this all week.
Think it's just a bad week for me.
Thank you for listening. 🙂

Hi Nat - you aren't on your own with this, I think a lot of us struggle. My levels are usually high a few days beforehand and then drop like a stone when my period starts - they can remain low for a few days afterwards as well. It can make it really tough to plan things I find - just another cross we have to bear! Oh - and I crave rubbish too - my sister (non diabetic) tells me she is the same.

Hi there, I am totally the same. Level 8.9 this morn which it's the best it's been all week and then shot to 16 and got a 6.8 and just checked it and it's 20!
Tried increasing pump but then I hypo.
Tried exercising again today but feel exhausted.
Thanx for your replies I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong 🙂

I too find my period affects my BG. I ususally go high 3-5 days before and then low on day 2 of my period. I put a temp basal on of +20% beforehand and then drop it by -10% on day 2. Work in progress, but I find it does help.
