Hello lovelies

I went to my appointment with the nurse , I’m doing extremely well we will be doing monthly catch ups after next week .

I asked my nurse about how they go about dealing with people being a diabetic and pregnancies because I’m 29 and I’m starting to get super super clucky like beyond clucky . I currently have the implant in my arm still and from what she said is once it’s out they start you on folic acid for 3 months and you have to track your ovalation (sorry for incorrect spelling) for a couple of months and of course use condoms then start trying . Nurse also said if they need to they will start you on insulin only if you need it .

I would love to hear people’s expirences and stories and advices on this pretty please ?! .

I’ve been with my partener for 5 and a half years so that’s kinda telling me that well we aren’t going anywhere at all .

Thankyou 🙂

It might be slightly different in Australia @Jacinta (Australian) but in the U.K. you can attend a pre-conception clinic. You take high strength folic acid for at least 3 months before trying, and, very importantly, your HbA1C has to be below 48 mmol/mol (6.5%). You also have to maintain very tight control during pregnancy.

You get extra scans and appointments to help you and a lot of support to make sure your pregnancy goes well. In the U.K., people with diabetes are often induced as a precaution if they don’t go into labour naturally before a certain date.

My advice is to take your time. Take the special folic acid and concentrate on getting and keeping your HbA1C good. Also, make sure you’re generally healthy and all prepared to carry a baby. Get yourself in a good place practically and emotionally. There are some good pregnancy and conception forums you might want to look at, as well as getting general information about pregnancy.

Ah what lovely news @Jacinta (Australian)

Hope your regular meetings with the nurse help you and your partner reach a decision that both of you are happy with.

Do check out some of the threads in the Pregnancy section for all sorts of questions that others have asked, and experiences people have shared 🙂

The targets in pregnancy are pretty tough, but there is more and more support available these days, and we have had lots of successful pregnancies on the forum over the years 🙂
