At risk of diabetes
Hi all. As a result of routine blood tests I have been found to be pre-diabetes. I have looked through a lot of the information on here and have bought some cookbooks etc. Luckily I have been exercising some self control already and lost a bit of weight this year. Exercise can be an issue - I cannot overdo things or I get wiped out for a couple of days due to another medical issue - and living on a smallholding there are "planned" jobs and then the "eeek what happened here, better repair it now" jobs but most of the time I can juggle them.

Exercise helps if you can do it but it sounds as if you are reasonably active anyway so the biggest help will be in making some modest dietary changes to reduce your carbohydrate intake, not just sugary foods but things that we have all been told are healthy like potatoes, rice, pasta, and basing meals on meat, fish, eggs, cheese with generous portions of veg and salads but smaller ones of the starchy foods. Cutting out cakes and biscuits, sugary drinks including fruit juice and the obvious sweets. Making good food choices with a few substitutions should be sufficient.
This link has good explanation and some meal ideas for a range of tastes and budgets. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Welcome to the forum @GeorginaM

Good to hear you are reading around the subject - getting a variety of perspectives an approaches can give you a range of options to try until you find something that works for you.

If you’ve not already tried it you might also find the Learning Zone to be a useful addition. It's packed with bite-sized modules that you can work through in your own time 🙂
