April I was told I was type 2 pre diabetic, never new “pre” was a thing and still finding it difficult to fully understand + overwhelmed with “what I’m meant to do”

Im 31, i’m active and always have been, walks everyday, hikes, joined gym for 2 years. I don’t want to loose weight I have no weight to loose. But I’m so overwhelmed all I can see is how this feels like a long term diet where I can’t enjoy sugar and carbs (my sweet tooth is what possibly got me here)

I made changes back then and did 6 weeks little to no sugar, I already prepare fresh meals so that wasn’t an issue (but 1-2 week to stop a takeaway meal!!) everything was going well and I slipped off, still not 100% as before but I keep putting it to the back of my mind thinking it will go away but it won’t :(

Welcome to the forum, prediabetes is just a warning that your blood glucose is at a level where your body is struggling to cope with the amount of carbohydrates in your diet, Those aren't just sweet things but foods which everybody has been led to believe are healthy like brown versions of pasta, rice and bread but they are very high carb foods and need to be only had in small portions but meat, fish, eggs, cheese, dairy, nuts are all good food on which to base meals together with veg and salads and fruit like berries. It is far easier to tackle your higher than desirable blood glucose now by making some modest changes than have to try much harder if you slip over into the diabetic zone.
Have a look at this link as there is good information and some menu plans which may give you some ideas https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
If you don't need to lose weight then making sure you replace the reduction in carbs with protein and healthy fats.
If you have a sweet tooth then reducing your sugar will help to adjust you taste buds but the website sugarfreelondoner has recipes for low carb cakes and biscuits as well as savoury dishes.*

Welcome to the forum @Mileyxlaura

Well ‘pre diabetes’ is only really a form of shorthand for ‘at risk of diabetes’ which we have kinda adopted from the US. It isn’t really an official condition that can be diagnosed.

How did your notification come about? Was it a routine health check? Or were you experiencing any symptoms that took you to the Drs?

Your description of your low weight, and your young age might raise the possibility that you may have a different form of diabetes than the (all too often) default diagnosis outside of childhood of T2.

A straw poll on age of diagnosis I ran many years ago unexpectedly revealed 30-35 as the age with the highest likelihood of being later reclassified away from T2.
