At risk of diabetes
Recently told possibly pre diabetic, trying to change my diet and exercise to prevent this developing if I can. Interested in how others have managed

Welcome @Lihug 🙂 Losing weight and increasing exercise can help, even something like walking or swimming. You might also need to look at your diet and see if you can reduce the carbs in it gradually.

Thank you. I’m cutting back my carbs and trying to get a walk in every day so hopefully that will help. If only it wouldn’t rain so much ☔️☔️. Need to get the waterproofs on !
You should find some of the menu ideas and recipes in this link useful for modifying your diet, you should only need to make some modest changes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
I found following the principals successful in reducing my blood glucose.

I’m in the same boat but I’m in the pre-diabetic range confirmed by blood test. Cutting carbs drastically and walking more. Also reading ‘How to Reverse Type 2 Diabetes and Prediabetes’, by Dr Cavan. The diagnosis came as a big shock to me.

Me too. Thanks for advice

Welcome to the forum!

We have quite a few members who have been told they are at risk of T2 diabetes, who have successfully been able to reduce their glucose levels and steer away from the diagnosis cut-off.

It’s not unusual to feel overwhelmed in the beginning, and for the news to come as a shock, but hopefully with a few tweaks and changes to your menu, losing weight (which can help improve insulin sensitivity), and adding a little extra exercise and activity into your routine will pay dividends. 🙂

Hello @Lihug - I didn't manage to prevent becoming diabetic. Obviously at some point before becoming diabetic I would have been pre-diabetic but I never knew. When I was diagnosed I then sought to make changes (e.g. diet, exercise, etc.) and was eventually able to get my blood sugar below the pre-diabetic levels. All of the changes I have made could have been made at an earlier point if I had known so I think it is great you are looking at it now. If of interest I wrote up my journey (per link below)

I’ve just read your diabetes story, finding it both inspiring and educational in terms of understanding the paths leading to insulin resistance. Thank you!

Dr Cavan is actually more than 'a bit of an expert' where diabetes is concerned. His reputation and expertise stretched a lot further than just in Bournemouth Hospital Diabetes centre where he worked and introduced innovative new ideas there which worked well for all concerned - and were adopted by the NHS generally. (I'm talking about northern Europe generally when I say 'wider than just here') Though I've not read that book since I have Type 1 diabetes so only ever had experience of his T1 teachings, because they were more than just reliable - I fully expect that his T2 advice is as well!
