Pre diabetes or not

Thanks again...all good to know. Im also very active and fit for my age despite a few chronic conditions which are stable.
Im planning to cook those Fat Head Dough Balls very soon. I have the Freswell App. Your resting heart rate is excellent.
Im on a statin. No side effects. The benefits outway the risks for most. Lots of research has been done on them.

This section in a very comprehensive guide of what applies in Canada which refers to older people may help you.
These guidelines state "...it is functional status and life expectancy, rather than age itself, that helps determine glycemic targets, including A1C."

NICE guidelines say the same thing in different words. Their patient decision aid is about the level of medication: relax targets for those with lower life expectancy and higher comorbidities.

Older people with a lower frailty index (on the fitter side of the scale) can set themselves stricter glycemic targets to be achieved by diet and exercise without medication, just as younger people do.

Hi Jimmy,
At my recent review there was a push to put me on statins claiming my BP was a bit high but when measured it was 136/74 with a resting pulse rate of 45 which for my age (63 1/2)
just got this article on my Medscape email. Thought it might be of interest to you.

@Suedon thanks for that article it is an interesting one but from my perspective the study seems slightly flawed in that the people given the statin were also provided with health coaching and I would have expected a control group to be established who were solely prescribed statins so that they could see the impact were people did not make the health changes.

I continue to work to improve my diabetes management solely through exercise and diet and things are improving. I am ready for a sub 60 minute 10k and will probably do one over the summer. I also have another meeting with the nurse in the summer when I will explain that those of my relatives with cardio vascular issues had all smoked and drank heavily which I definitely do not do.
