Postcode lottery for NICE approved drugs.

So many drugs that have been approved by NICE and which are better for the patient are being banned by some PCT's.
These include statins which do not give as many side effects and a drug for young people with bone cancer that helps them live longer.

PCTs argue they are only restricting drugs when there are others available in the same class that are cheaper, or for which there is better evidence of effectiveness.

Really, that is just saying that they are looking to save money, since why would you ever prescribe something that was less-effective but more expensive? Yet there is evidence that for some patients generics are less-effective, but they won't get the more effective ones because the generics are in the 'same class'. Sophistry and weasel words 😡
