A few times I have tested the same foods and got very similar results in terms of the different between pre- and post- meal. As my levels have come down, my absolute measurements have also come down.

When I was trying to find out what breakfast I tested burgen bread with peanut butter. I then did it again recently

[March 2011] Before: 7.9; After: 9.6; Delta: 1.7
[July 2011] Before: 5.9; After: 7.6; Delta: 1.7

I guess the positive I can take here is at least it doesn?t get worse! But the questions it raises are:

1. Has anyone (of the type 2?s) done similar testing like this and found their actual response to improve? Or done the same sort of tests and found the same thing?

2. Can I use this as a marker for knowing if my diabetes has intensified? (assuming my diet is stable, etc)

I don?t expect to be able to cure myself, since once you have lost the betacell?s ? they are gone. But a couple of reports I read did seem to indicate that your phase 1 release can come back if you can drop your fasting levels.

On the other hand, assuming I?m not ill, if my fasting and post-prandial delta both go up, maybe I could assume that I?ve lost a few more beta-cells

Well the march figure shows a 21% rise in the before and after figs and the July figs show a 29% rise before and after. Might not be signiifcant and depends what you did in between each reading on each occasion.

But you surely can't have lost all that many beta cells between march and july. perhaps a yearly test is in order?

You are making the assumption that a specific carb loading will cause a percentage increase in blood glucose. Whereas I am making the assumption that it will cause an delta increase in blood glucose.

The question is; which way does it actually happen? Are there any nice research articles out there that point which way it should be.

My assumption of absolute is based on the fact Type 1's have both insulin:carb ratios and insulin:bg ratios.
