post prandial figures

Relationship to Diabetes
I've been doing more research and found some interesting information. The traditional numbers for postprandial are anything under 8 or 7.8, also demonstrated here - https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing

However, both Jenny Ruhl http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/ and Dr Bernsteinhttp://www.diabetes-book.com who are the most credible writers on diabetes, believe that the 7.8 target is too high. They quote various expert organisations to back this up. JR says that when you go over 6.7 your risk of heart disease doubles.

So what we make of this and if this is true then why have the official figures not changed?

Probably because achieving that level of control on MDI is nigh on impossible! I'd also be leery of these "expert" organisations. Without seeing the actual research behind the claims it's difficult to establish whether there's any credibility to it. Remember, people used to say smoking was good for you lol 🙄

Yes that's what I think. Sorry should have said this is for the non-diabetic btw.

I’ll stick to the NICE guidelines because in the real world it’s very hard to achieve 6.7 post prandial (presumably this relates more to type 2’s?). This would mean a Hba1c 40 or under which is totally out of diabetic range and fine for anyone without knackered pancreatic function. Non diabetics can struggle to achieve the levels they suggest!
