I've almost shaken off the cough and cold I've had for nearly 2 weeks now although I'm still getting an occasional coughing fit and I've got a sniffly nose. :(

I don't feel ill though - just a bit tired as the cough was keeping me awake for hours every night until Thursday. (No, I can't have a lie-in to catch up on sleep because I have to be up at 6.30 to get to work on time. In retrospect maybe taking a few days off would have been wise especially as most of my colleagues took nearly a week off with the same bug!)

Anyway ... to get to the point. I expected my BG to be higher while I was ill. It actually went up 2 days before I started showing symptoms which I've learned is normal. Before that I'd got my pre-breakfast level down to between 5.9 and 6.2 which I was quite happy with. It never went up dramatically but it's now hovering around the 6.5 - 7.2 mark. Is this normal and is it likely to go back to my low 6's in the near future?

(I'm Type2 on Metformin 500 mg twice daily and on a low-carb diet)

Hi Carmina, sorry you have ended up with the lurgy as well.
I would hazarded a guess that as you have been unwell you haven't been as active as you are normally so this would impact on your blood sugars.

Sorry to hear you have fallen victim also to this lurgy, so many of us seem to have a similar thing in recent weeks :( Glad to hear you are on the mend now 🙂

I am pretty similar to you, levels raised but not excessively (although in my case I did need to increase my insulin doses quite a bit), and remaining a little stubborn after symptoms had more or less gone. This usually happens with me and I think it is because, although you may feel well again, your body is still fighting off the remnants of the infection so it will take a few days until you are back to normal. Plus, of course, Sue's suggestion that you may have been less active during the illness.

Hope you are back to 100% soon! 🙂

I've also had this dratted cough for 2 weeks, and have not been doing my exercises as much as usual cos of feeling tired and run down. I wondered how this might affect my readings so I'm glad that others have found the same (if you see what I mean...!).

I've also discovered through testing that Linda McCartney Deep Dish Pies (which I was very fond of) are Very Bad for my readings... :( <sob>
